So, I have been a little busy!

It has been a while since I have had time to blog at all. Laura told me I need to do a better job, but I have just been so busy. If you check out my embroidery blog and you will understand why I haven't had any time.

Rush had a cute moment the other day at school. His class was making Christmas stars and he was working beside Mrs. Jo. They were talking about his star and he asked if they were going outside to throw them up to Jesus. She told him that she didn't think they could throw it that far, but that she was going to put her's on her tree and maybe he could too. He in turn said that he didn't think he could throw the tree that far! How sweet is he.

He is really learning the true meaning of Christmas and really talking about Jesus. His favorite new Christmas song is We Three Kings. He also enjoyed going to the "Nativity Zoo" at Mer's church with Ya Ya and Big Rush.

Mason has had a few mishaps this week. First he tackled me when I had a Qtip in my ear and it did a little damage to my ear on Wednesday. On Friday he got his finger smashed in the bathroom door and we had to make an emergency trip to the doctor. It wasn't broken, but who could have known when he screamed like that. Rush said it turned different colors. Just to clear things up Rush was obeying my closing the door and Mason was disobeying by running to the bathroom while Rush was in there. What teachable moments!

So, I have been a little busy!

Halloween

So Halloween has come and gone and I wonder who decided it would be a great idea to dress up the kids and go ask the neighbors for candy. Rush had to be Batman. It was not my first choice, but I am allowing him to make some choices at very specific times and this was one of those times. He told us weeks ago that he wanted to be a referee and all the sudden at the end of last week he wanted to be Batman who he knows nothing about. I figured that Batman was a good guy though not as cute and original as a referee, but I could live with that. I didn't get a whole lot of pics of him but everybody else did. I was answering the door during picture time. Hopefully that fam will send some over. Cousin Zachary was a pirate, argh! They went down all of our street and the next one and can I say we didn't really get any of my favorite candy! Oh yeah and we know every person on these two streets that has a dog and of course they had to ask to pet them. If you really want to be entertained for a time you should hang out with Rush and Zachary for any length of time. I am almost scared of what they will do when they are older!

Sweet Mason didn't really have a costume until late. He doesn't know about it yet so why make a big deal? He did have to have a costume though which is a problem in itself. The costumes you buy in the store are made for Halloween in places where it is cold and I have seen the day when little guys were sweating in their costumes but moms put them on anyway because she had already bought it and there had to be a costume. I thought about something like a scarecrow, or Bob the Builder or a fireman with the stuff that we already had, but no matter what I did I couldn't complete the outfit. So I got to thinking about Mason's favorite thing to do and decided that it was to eat and then I recalled that he loves to bang on my pots and pans and thus the cook was born. I made his apron in about five minutes and gave him a spoon and he loved it! The thing on his head was actually his bag for candy, but somebody put it on his head and he loved it, he didn't need candy anyway. THe bags were another story all together. We couldn't find our pumpkin buckets and of course I waited until the last minute and they were napping and that is too good to mess with. I called daddy for help and he said "can't you just make them something?" therefore the bags.

Mason's First Haircut

I finally took Mason to get his first haircut. In my opinion we have needed it for several weeks, but my mother completely disagreed. We all know that he was sporting a serious mullet! Unfortunately, the poor boy has my hair that is really fine with no texture or even the slightest wave. When he was in the bathtub the morning of his haircut, his wet hair reached below his shoulders. Just a week before a friend that I teach preschool with asked when he was getting a haircut because he looked like Terry Bradshaw. We were finally able to coordinate our first haircut with Mr. Thom who had been unable to work due to a broken leg. Please notice the wonderful posture that Mason has during this process. He didn't make a single complaint about it but was very happy to receive his sucker for being so good. The whole process took maybe 5 minutes!

The Bible according to Rush

Apparently Rush has come across a kids friendly Bible translation. We have been working on learning a few key verses. We really concentrate on the monthly Bible verse from preschool. Last month we talked about obedience in chapel at school so our verse was Ephesians 6:1, Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. I cannot think of a better verse for him to commit to memory at this time! Well, I am always asking him what the Bible says and this week I got my favorite answer yet. Rush told me, "The Bible says children obey your parents and tell somebody when you need to poop." He was as serious as he could be and it was all I could do to keep a straight face. I will be sure to remind him on this when he is older.

I was looking at my pics on the computer when I noticed several pics of the boys in the same outfits just two years apart. I thought it was kind of funny to see how different they look. Mason is about 4 months younger than Rush was when each of these outfits were worn. Mason is so much bigger and Rush looks so much older. Rush had probably had 3 or 4 haircuts by 16 months and Mason can't grow anything but the mullet!

The Cutest Thing!

From The Lachina Family
So, Rush's class went to the pumpkin patch on Thursday. We decided to ride with my friend Chrissy who is the Kindergarten teacher and her daughter Caroline who is Rush's friend and his teacher Mrs. Jo. Rush and Caroline are buddies and sometimes I find it scary how much their personalities are alike. Chrissy and I seem to have the same struggles with our very strong willed children! Anyway, Chrissy and I were walking behind them and I don't know how it happened or who initiated this, but it was such a photo op!

Mason

I have decided that Mason doesn't get enough face time. So just enjoy his sweet face, enough said.

Tents

Our favorite new thing is to build a tent. Ours might not be as cool as Aunt Susie's 20 year old tent, but it definitely proves to be fun! Of course it is better when you can play in your tent with no pants!

Sooo far from perfect

I get in these moods where I wonder what my idea of a perfect life would be like. I would wake up every morning from a wonderful nights sleep and have all the energy in the world. Everyone else in the house would wake up on their own and happy and ready to start the day. Since I would be oh so organized clothes for the day would already be ironed and hanging in the closet, lunches would be packed, and my house would be immaculate because of course I would have time to clean it or money to pay someone to do so. Did I mention that this house we live in would be just a bit bigger with a yard, a playroom and a sewing room, and would also be in a location closer to our families and Brian's work? Brian would be off to work and I would take the kids to preschool while I spent the day taking care of things for my family, doing a little sewing, or indulging myself in something that I truly enjoy! We would come home at the end of our day and the kids would rest while I fix dinner that we would all enjoy and sit at the table to eat. We could enjoy family time just playing and enjoying being together. The kids would get baths and go to bed without a fight and I would get to spend time with my husband. That would be the life!

Truth be told, my life is so far from that that it is not even funny. I really love my life ,but I there seem to be a lot of less than perfect days lately. I'm not one to wish that things would be different, but I really have thought about it lately. I love my family so much, but I wish that they would all be healthy and happy just for a few days. There could be things that could be a bit easier. I guess it is the hard times that help shape us. I also know that it is during the hard times that we look more toward God and fully rely on him. He does carry us. He does get us through it, we just need to fully depend on him everyday and not just during the hard times. I'm guilty of that at times. I don't spend enough time praying and seeking God in my decisions. He has shown me that I need to do so more and that his plan is perfect. I just wish I perfectly understood.

Where does my time go?

I really did intend to do a good job of keeping things updated, but as you see that didn't happen. The Lachina family, everyone except me, has been sick and keeping me busy. We have started preschool and are keeping a very busy schedule. I don't really find time to do much that I want or need to do these days.

A little update on everyone... Brian has been battling some nasty sinus stuff for weeks and hopefully we will get it taken care of next week with a little minor surgical procedure since meds are not doing the trick.

Rush is growing up to fast. He is learning letter sounds and is trying to sound out words already. He got his first pair of New Balance tennis shoes which make him run very fast. At school their behavior chart is a slide with a mud puddle at the end and if you get in trouble you move your animal to the bottom and your second offense lands you in the mud puddle. He has been there twice I believe. Apparently he talks when he is supposed to be quiet and he has a hard time staying in his seat or in the line. I have to laugh because he is so me. Don't worry I don't let him see me laugh. He also has taken up a new hobby of playing games on the Playhouse Disney website. He figured it out all by himself.

Mason is the silliest little boy I ever saw. He is still sporting the mullet hairdo. I believe he is going to be sneaky! He has found great joy in playing inside the tent I make in the den with kitchen chairs and a quilt. Who would have thought that a blanket and chairs could be so fun! He has been battling a little sinus stuff like his daddy, but it hasn't slowed him down at all. He loves going to school and playing with his friends. I think it helps when you have all the teachers wrapped around your finger! He does have a new bad habit of hitting people with his lovey. I don't know that this happens to anyone but me and Rush, but that's enough.

Not much is going on with me. Just trying to stay ahead of the game and keep my house and life somewhat organized. I try at least!

It's that time again!

So it is that time again, Football Time! You many or may not know that We are a house divided. I am a hug Auburn fan as well as and Auburn Alum and Brian is a huge Alabama fan. We love each other despite our differences in football. This weekend starts it all. It is always interesting to see what the boys end up dressed in on game day. Whoever does the duty of dressing two boys gets to pick which team they are dressed for. Rush's friend Grace also comes from a house divided and she has this precious shirt that says Roll Eagle. I think I need to see what I can do about getting that into our wardrobe!

Bad Guys and Mullets

Rush has gotten into some new toys these days. Things like Little People are fun for Mason and occasionally for Rush, but Rush is into action. He is all boy and doing what all little boys do, but that is still a little bit of an adjustment for me. He has gotten his first "bad guy" toy. His imagination is vivid to say the list. He also has decided that Buzz Lightyear is the best and loves to pretend to be him. He walks around using his imaginary laser to zap things. His once innocent Little People Lions now fight like Simba and Scar in the Lion King. Have you ever noticed how inappropriate Disney movies can be at times when it comes to preschoolers? Anyway, I guess I will be dealing with the bad guy thing for a long time.

A bad guy to Mason is anyone who takes away his food! That boy loves to eat! He is bigger than Rush was at his age. He is so content too. He loves to play and he will play with anything that has wheels for the longest time. He loves things that go. I need to get a picture up because you have got to see his mullet! He is sporting the red baby mullet! If he could just get it to grow on top he would have beautiful hair. I do have to say that Mason has one bad habit, he is a horrible sleeper!

Why?

Now that everybody in my family has given me a hard time about my pitiful blogs and FB page I am trying to get things going. I am trying to make it a point to keep things updated.

Last night and this morning I found myself asking why quite a few times. I know this is a question that gets asked everyday by many people and often goes unanswered. I, like most children, am not happy with the answer just because. I feel the need to share of the many times in the last 24 hours I have asked why.

We got a notice in the mail from Alabama Power saying they would be interrupting service in our area on Tuesday. We kept it and were prepared knowing that it would be a long and hot day here with two children and no power. But somehow things didn't happen according to my plan that morning. Why did the have to turn off the power to the neighborhood yesterday morning before I had my shower, ironed my clothes, ate breakfast, and checked my email? And why on the morning that I had a doctors appointment?

Yesterday afternoon we were back home with full power just hanging out. My house is clean because I had bunko here the night before. Otherwise that doesn't happen very often. Because I had had a house full of people the night before for dinner and bunko I purchased a bag of ice. We all know I love to crunch ice and I did not want to run out of ice after feeding 12 people. Publix only had 20 pound bags of ice, which is huge, but I bought it anyway. The big bag was causing issue in my freezer so I decided I would put it in smaller bags so I could get my freezer back to normal. I pulled the bag out and as I put it on the kitchen floor... Why did it have to break open spilling into my floor? Why did it have to melt so fast? Why did my children think it was so much fun to play in? The answer to that one really might be obvious.

My most recent why moment happened just this morning. The boys and I are just hanging out watching TV, playing, having a snack, watching a video email from Kristi about a Waffle House Wedding. Which by the way is worth watching.

http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/ftp/multimedia/waffleweddingx/publish_to_web/

Did I mention that we are doing all this while still in pajamas? Anyway, we are enjoying ourselves and the doorbell rings! Why? Of course they get all excited and Rush runs to the window to look out. So there is absolutely no hiding the fact that we are home and in our pajamas. I peeked out and knew immediately that it was two sweet ladies who happened to be Jehovah's Witnesses. What is a person to do? So I open the door a crack and stick my head out and apologize for being unable to open the door due to the fact that I am not properly dressed for company. So they ask me their questions and I give my answers trying to share my faith at the same time. All while I am very uncomfortably sticking my head out the door in my pajamas. Why didn't I get dressed already and why aren't they noticing that this is awkward.

A few more why questions to ponder?

Why does Mason think that the rocks in the fireplace are so much fun to put in his mouth?

Why does Rush have to have a new cup, bowl or plate every time he needs a snack or drink?

Why is it that my kitchen floor can't stay clean?

My First Blog Entry!

I have finally decided to get with the program and make my own blog! We do have a family website, but I have no idea how to do anything to it. I really don't know what I am doing when it comes to creating a blog, but I guess I can figure it out. We will see what this becomes.
